Obituary for Donald R. "Don" Scott

Donald R. "Don"  Scott
Visitation for Donald will be held on Sunday, June 21st, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22nd, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at High Prairie United Methodist Church. Pall bearers will be Donald’s nephews Randy, Bob, Jon, Rodney, Bryan and Joe Brauns. Honorary pall bearers will be Bill and Bob Scott. Memorials may be made to High Prairie Church Cemetery Association of Lake Township for the cemetery fence restoration.
Donald R. (Don) Scott went to be with the Lord on June 17, 2015. Don was born on April 18, 1933 at Bellevue Hospital in Muscatine, IA the son of Howard W. and Ruth M. (Willits) Scott. He lived his entire life in the Muscatine area, aside from the time he was in military service. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School in 1951. Don was an active member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church, serving on several committees during the years.
Don served in the U.S. Army Engineers Battalion in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He married Jean L. Brauns on September 11, 1955 at High Prairie Church in Muscatine Iowa. He farmed all his adult life. He was a long-time member of the Muscatine County Pork Producers Association. He enjoyed grilling and serving pork at various promotions. Don was a member of the County, State and National Corn and Soybean Growers Associations. He was a charter member of Pro Farmers of America.
Don was also a County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for 23 years and won several awards for his farm conservation work. He was an assistant leader of the Lake Livewires 4-H club for 10 years, and served as a township representative on the Muscatine County Extension Council.
He was a member of the Muscatine County Farm Bureau for many years. Growing up he was a member of 4-H, holding several offices. He was also a FFA member and officer, receiving the Iowa Star Farmer Award.
Aside from farming he enjoyed his family, especially his four grandchildren. He looked forward to taking the family on camping vacations.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean (Brauns) Scott; son, David W. Scott, his wife, Amy, and their sons, Aaron and Ean Scott of Muscatine; and son, Daniel R. Scott, his wife, Ludmila, and their daughters Karina and Sabrina Scott of Iowa City; one brother, Larry H. Scott and his wife Genevieve of Dahlonega, GA; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane L. Scott and his parents, Howard and Ruth Scott.
