Lawrence "Roger"  Schuetze
Lawrence "Roger" Schuetze, 82, of Columbus Junction, passed away June 23, 2015 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Columbus Junction. Visitation with the family present will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. with prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Friday, June 26 at Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbus Junction. All are invited to join the family after the service in the church basement for a celebration of life and lunch. Private burial to be handled at a later date in Paxico, Kansas. Memorials may be made to Roundy Elementary Library in Columbus Junction. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Roger was born on July 10, 1932 in Paxico, Kansas to Lawrence and Marie Schuetze. He received his early education in Paxico, graduating from Paxico High School in 1950. Roger served in the U.S. Army after high school, being stationed at the Sandia Base in New Mexico. On July 3, 1954, Roger was united in marriage to Catherine Louise Cummings in Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home in Manhattan, Kansas, where Roger graduated from Kansas State University in 1959 with a degree in restaurant management. He started his career with the Stouffer's Corporation, moving to Saga Foods in the mid 1960s. In 1965, Roger and Catherine moved to Columbus Junction, where he worked at the former Ross Dry Goods and later Pamida in Muscatine. Roger then worked for the U.S. Postal Service, serving as a rural carrier in the Columbus Junction area.

Roger was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbus Junction, the Knights of Columbus, the local VFW, and military guard. He also served as a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed his time as a volunteer reader for area kindergarten classes. Roger also enjoyed spending time with friends playing pool and cards. Above all, Roger loved his family. He was a good man who cared about others.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine, two sons, Charles (Heidi) of Anchorage, Alaska; Martin (Robin) of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and a daughter, Patricia (Quinn) Turner of West Des Moines, Iowa; granddaughters, Jennifer Junker of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Amanda Turner of Des Moines, Iowa and Sarah Scherber of La Crosse, Wisconsin; grandsons, Christopher Schuetze, New Bernie, New York and Jacob Scherber of Robbinsdale, Minnesota; a brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Laurine Hutley. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Dan and Brian, and four brothers, Donald, Sylvan, Orville and Gerald.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonial Manor for the care provided to Roger.
