Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for

Funeral and Cremation Services

Muscatine, Iowa

The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services has served Muscatine and the surrounding communities for over 135 years.  Wittich Brothers Undertaking and Furniture Store began in 1865 at 212 Cedar Street.  The building size was doubled by George M. Wittich with the addition of 210 Cedar Street along with the name change to Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home.
In 1936, Thomas F. Beveridge and Floyd Downey bought the funeral home with Mr. Beveridge acquiring sole ownership in 1945.  The building and business was purchased by D. Stacy Lewis in 1978.  Formal plans for moving the business to its present location of 2907 Mulberry Avenue began in May 1982 and in June 1983, the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services was established at the new location.  In early 1996, an addition was added and included the Community Room and the Life Transistions Library.
