Alta I.  Russell
Alta I. Russell, 92, of Joy, Illinois, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Genesis Senior Living in Aledo, Illinois. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mathias Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Visitation for Alta will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and rosary service at 7:00 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Alta’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Alta Isabell Gollobit was born on September 4, 1921, in Preston, Iowa the daughter of Jacob Edward and Libbie (Simmons) Gollobit. On April 30, 1941, Alta was united in marriage to Joseph Eugene “Gene” Russell at St. Mathias Church in Muscatine, Iowa. She was a member of St. Mathias Church for 60 years, she was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court Joan of Arc #524. Joseph and Alta farmed in the Bay Island for over 50 years, later they retired to Joy, Illinois and became members of St. Catherine Church. She enjoyed gardening and most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.

Alta will be deeply missed by her three sons, Joseph Russell Jr. and his wife, Jayne of Aledo, Illinois, Michael Allen “Mike” Russell his wife, Sharon of Glendale, Arizona and Denis James Russell and wife, Anita of Joy, Illinois; three daughters, Gloria Hazelett and her husband, John of Bluegrass, Iowa, Vicki Kay Keil and her husband, Gary of Davenport, Iowa and Debra Diane Ruffie and her husband, Rick of Chicago, Illinois; twenty grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Richard, one daughter Patricia, and three brothers, Lawrence, Virtus, Edward; two sisters, Evelyn and Mary; twins Charlotte and Carlett.
