Obituary for Oscar Ellithorpe

Oscar Ellithorpe, 69, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites. Following the services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Pearl City Outreach. Visitation for Oscar will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Oscar’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Oscar was born on August 30, 1945, in Maquoketa, Iowa the son of Orson Edward and Alma (Saunders) Ellithorpe. Oscar was a 1964 graduate of Maquoketa High School. Oscar served his county in the United States Army from June 17, 1964 – August 13, 2005. He had been employed by IBP, HON Industries and as a cook in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Oscar was a member of the Salvation Army and enjoyed cars, motorcycles and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia.

Oscar will be missed by his girlfriend, Ruth Adams of Muscatine; son, David (Jenette) Ellithorpe of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; one grandson, Dakota Ellithorpe; and brothers, Ernie Saunder of Clinton, Roy (Myra) Sargent of Sterling, Illinois, Earl Ellithorpe of Maquoketa, Ronald (Sherry) Ellithorpe of Clinton, Larry Ellithorpe of Muscatine and Albert (Leona “Midge”) Ellithorpe of Walcott.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary and Ellen.
