John David Roberson
John D. Roberson, 90, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Casketbearers will be Aaron Roberson, Ben Roberson, David Roberson, Austin Dietrich, Nick Dietrich and Danny Witkoske. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the combined units of the V.F.W. Post 1565 and the American Legion Post #27. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Visitation for John will be held on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until service time. John David Roberson was born on January 10, 1924 in Durham, Missouri, the son of Albert Hyde and Della M. (Peak) Roberson. John proudly served his country in the 58th Troop Carrier Squadron of the United States Army from 1943 – 1946. On January 22, 1945, John was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Weas. He had been employed as a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1951 until his retirement in 1987. John was a member of the First Baptist Church and the AARP.
John will be deeply missed by his children, Larry Roberson and wife, Linda, Jim Roberson and wife, Nancy and Lori Dietrich and husband, Curt all of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brother, Richard Honea and sister, Etta Honea both of Muscatine.
John was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Charles Honea; wife, Marjorie in 2008; daughter, Susan LaRue earlier in 2014; and brothers, Robert and Charles Honea.
