Daniel Martin "Dan" Duffey
Daniel (Dan) Duffey, 91 of Lone Tree, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree. Funeral services for Dan will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at St. Mary’s Church in Lone Tree. Fr. Mike Spiekermeier and Carol Kaalberg, Cluster Parish Coordinator will officiate. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the interment, there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Dan will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service with a Rosary at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Daniel Martin Duffey was born on June 1, 1923, in Holbrook, Iowa the son of Peter J. and Bridget (Driscoll) Duffey. On February 6, 1945, Dan was united in marriage to Mary “Margie” Hall at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Dan work for Harry’s Home Oil in Lone Tree and Stutsman’s Inc. in Hills retiring at the age of 83. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Lone Tree, Campers 8 of Lone Tree, Lone Tree City Council, a Boy Scout Leader and drove school bus for the Lone Tree Community School for six years. He traveled with Campers 8 and his family to 46 Continental US States and wintered in Apache Junction, Arizona for 25 years.
Daniel will be deeply missed by his wife, Margie of Lone Tree; his children, Harold W. Duffey and wife, Janice of Mesa, Arizona, LaVonne M. Parizek of Iowa City, Colleen K. Sojka and husband, Charles of Riverside, Ramona M. Duffey of Iowa City, Leon F. Duffey of Lake Worth, Florida, Kevin C. Duffey and wife, Reneé of Lone Tree, Roger D. Duffey of Iowa City and Anita A. Martin and husband, John of Lone Tree; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa Samuelson of Des Moines and Ann Pauley and husband, Glenn of Coralville and sisters-in-law, Patricia Duffy of Iowa City and Jean Duffey of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Russell A. Duffey, grandson, Justin Duffey Eitel, granddaughter, Syrena Ellis, brothers, Harold, Eugene, Richard, Regis, Peter, and Paul and sisters, LaVera Muller and Mary Agnes Schneider.
