Jerry D. Downey, 72, of Illinois City, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Trinity Hospital, Muscatine. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Drury Reynolds Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church or Rock Island County Farm Bureau Foundation. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Jerry Dennis Downey was born on January 8, 1942 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Edward K. and Naomi A. (Nyenhuis) Downey. On December 18, 1971, Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara J. Gosselink. Jerry had farmed his entire life in the Illinois City area and was a member of the Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. He loved farming, Illini sports, and most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Jerry will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara of Illinois City; two daughters, Alison Daufeldt (PJ) of Muscatine and Melissa Lindstrom (John) of Batavia, Illinois; six grandchildren, Aidan, Ava, Nathan, Cade, Audrey and Kora; four siblings, Nancy Weber (Jim), William Downey (Lois), Clark Downey (Patricia) all of Illinois City, and Nola Ayers (Mike) of Davenport.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Patrick, Chester and Steven Downey.
