Mary L. Klein, 98, of Riverside, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Lantern Park Nursing Home in Coralville. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Following the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Center. Visitation for Mary will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside with a 8:00 p.m. prayer service. Memorials may be directed to the Newman Center in Iowa City or Iowa City Hospice in memory of Mary. Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Mary Louise Smith was born June 10, 1916, in Downey, Iowa the daughter of Murry William and Kathryn Regina (Walsh) Smith. Mary was a 1935 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. On October 24, 1939, Mary was united in marriage to Ralph William Klein in Hills. Mary was the bookkeeper for their farm and Denny’s Body Shop and later was the greeter at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Riverside. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside and Catholic Order of Foresters. Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Jim Klein and wife, Becky o f West Branch, Joan Hora and husband, Terry of Ainsworth, Kathy Rath and husband, Ron of Riverside, Joyce Norris and husband, Roger of Ainsworth, Denny Klein and wife, Mary of Riverside and Randy Klein and wife, Tina of Atalissa; 25 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchild.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ralph, one daughter, Carol Ann, one son, Richard, one granddaughter, Chloe Jean Plank, one brother, Bill Smith and one sister, Gertrude Smith.
