Romelle Elizabeth Dallmeyer (Richardson)
Romelle E. Dallmeyer, 93, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Columbus Junction American Legion. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Grove Community Church in memory of Romelle. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Romelle Elizabeth Richardson was born on June 17, 1921, in Oakland Township, Louisa County, Iowa, West of Conesville, Iowa. She was the fourth of five children born unto Clayton Monroe and Jessie Marguerite (Cherryholmes) Richardson. She had two brothers and two sisters. They are Dean Clayton Richardson, William Lawrence Richardson, Irma May Richardson and Mrs. Clark (Helen Elaine) McKean.
Her mother, Jessie Marguerite (Cherryholmes) Richardson died April 21, 1927, in El Dorado, Kansas. Shortly thereafter, at the age of 5, Romelle moved in with and was raised by her loving aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Eugene and Mame (Cherryholmes) Fletcher and their three sons, Harlan Clinton, Knowlton Llewllyn and Richard Carter Fletcher.
Her birth father, Clayton Richardson, was married again September 28, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clara Ellen Selser. Romelle has 5 half-sisters: Alice Marie Yocum, Betty Lou Chance, Leah Mae Hartman, Sharon Anne Richardson, and Barbara Jean Bland; and 3 half-brothers: Theodore Clayton, James Henry and Lyle Wayne Richardson from her father’s marriage.
Romelle and Lewis Edward Dallmeyer were united in marriage March 1, 1941, at the parsonage of the Evangelical Church at Kahoka, Missouri. They set up housekeeping with Lewis’ parents as he was associated with his father in farming. Romelle was an active farm wife and devoted mother. They have lived on the Dallmeyer family farm east of Columbus Junction all their married life.
She was a member of Indian Creek Club, formed in 1926 by a group of women living along Indian Creek road. It was a social and philanthropic club, with members enjoying breakfasts, wiener roasts, potlucks and fellowship throughout the years.
Throughout her life, Romelle enjoyed baking, needlework, playing cards, and listening to Daniel O’Donnell, but most of all she loved her church and family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Community Church located in rural Columbus Junction, Iowa.
Romelle and Lewis were blessed with two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Rees and husband, Delbert of Columbus Junction and Mrs. Donna Henning and husband, Stephen of Davenport.
Together they have five grandchildren and spouses: Jeff Rees and wife, Gerry of Walcott, Jim Rees and wife, Melinda of Columbus Junction, Scott Henning and wife, Michelle of Davenport, Mrs. Susan O’Hoara and husband, Anthony of Davenport, and Stefanie Bae Henning of Portland, Oregon. They also have seven great grandchildren: Jarred and John Rees, Max and Mackenzie Henning, Ashley and Shaun Powell and Benjamin Lewis O’Hoara.
In addition to her loving husband of 73 years, Lewis, her two daughters, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, Romelle is survived by her sister, Helen Elaine Richardson-McKean of Lone Tree; brother and sister–in-law, Carl and Helen Dallmeyer of Washington and aunt, Lillian Fletcher of Wapello; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
