Georgia Lee Kost
Georgia L. Kost, 72, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. A celebration of life service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction. Pastor Don Clark will officiate. Immediately following services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Burial will be in the Norwich Cemetery, near Martelle, Iowa at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Columbus Junction Public Library or Camp Wyoming in Wyoming, Iowa in memory of Georgia. The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction is caring for Georgia’s arrangements and her family.
Georgia Lee Kost was born on December 15, 1942, in Anamosa, Iowa the daughter of Nicholas John and Adelia “Gail” (Peet) Kost. She graduated from Martelle Consolidated High School, Martelle, Iowa, in 1960. She attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she received her Master’s Degree. Every summer she also spent time in teacher’s workshops to further her education. Georgia was a High School Business Teacher in the Columbus Community School for 32 years, who loved teaching and trying to challenge her students. She was appointed Business Teacher of the year for the State of Iowa along with numerous other teaching acknowledgements. After her retirement she was still involved with teaching as she volunteered to be a teacher’s aid and was on the Columbus School Board for several years.
Georgia was also an active member of the United Presbyterian Church and held many church offices, and volunteered her time in the region. She also did missionary work in Brazil. Georgia had many hobbies, including taking care of her beautiful flowers in her yard, and judging items and entering items in the Louisa County Fair where she received many ribbons.
Georgia is survived by her sister, Carol Genovese of Bondurant; brother, Roger Kost and significant other, Margie of Coralville; nephew, Chad Kost and great nephew, Jake Kost and wife, Kate.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles.
