Obituary for William F. McCarthy

William F. McCarthy, 93, of Muscatine, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his home. No formal visitation or service will be held. Cremation rites have been facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for the arrangements.

William F. McCarthy was born on January 22, 1922 in Idabel, Oklahoma, the son of Samuel O. and Ellon (Proctor) McCarthy. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1942 – 1945 and was an honored recipient of a Purple Heart. On November 5, 1945, William was united in marriage to Inez L. Pilkilton in Paris, Texas. William retired from the USAF as a Quality Control Inspector at Tinker Air Force Base. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, playing guitar and bird-keeping.

William will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Sabrina Smith and Michael Ferreira, both of Muscatine and Stephen Ferreira of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Megan Smith and Charlie Ferreira; one great-great granddaughter, Markie; and his beloved dachshund, Zoey.

William was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Linda Ferreira; grandson-in-law, Paul Smith; two sisters and one brother.
