Gerald Duane Essex, 65, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, June 26th at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown, Iowa. Cremation rites have been facilitated by the FCS Life Transition and Cremation Center, located within Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Gerald will be held on Monday, June 29th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place after the funeral service at the columbarium in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the inurnment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Gerald Duane Essex was born on August 3, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Edward Lincoln and Ida Mae (Eisley) Essex. On May 5, 1973, Gerald was united in marriage to Deborah J. Newcomb at the United Methodist Church in Nichols, Iowa. Gerald retired from Muscatine Power and Water after 42 years of service. He enjoyed building cars, being a member of several local car clubs, and helping people whenever he was needed. He was a member of the American Legion and a two-year veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army.

Gerald will be missed by his wife, Deborah; son, Jeremy (Kristen) Essex; two grandchildren, Paityn and Emily Essex; brother, Randy Essex; and sister, Donna M. Eggers (Joe Warnstaff).

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Essex; and sister, Beverly Salyars.
