Obituary for James H. VanCamp

James H.  VanCamp
James H. VanCamp, 88, of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011, surrounded by his family, at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine.

Memorial services will be 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Sweetland United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Turner will officiate the services. Following the memorial services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation for James will be Wednesday, April 6, from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be held at a later date in the Harker Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in James’ name. James H. VanCamp was born on November 15, 1922 in Sweetland Township, the son of Jacob Drew and Myrtle M. (Allen) VanCamp. James attended Iowa State University. On December 16, 1945, James was united in marriage to Marjorie Moran. He was a farmer in the Muscatine area his entire life and drove a school bus. James was a member of the Sweetland United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, a 50 year member of the Masons in Wilton, 50 year member of the Elks, a member of the Moose, Bloomington Grange, Muscatine County Farm Bureau and a Sweetland Township Trustee, overseeing four cemeteries. James enjoyed watching T.V., flying his airplane, riding motorcycles, but most of all; James dearly lived to spend time with his family and friends.

James will be deeply missed by his wife, Marjorie of Muscatine; two daughters, Susan Johnson of Muscatine and JoAnne Hute and her husband, Randall of Muscatine; grandchildren, Eric Hute and his wife, Tina of Muscatine and Shawn Houghton and her husband, Michael of Muscatine; great grandchildren, Megan, Jaden and Allison Houghton of Muscatine; step-great grandchildren, Melissa Dorrell and her husband Kenneth of Hawaii, Tyler Welker of Muscatine and Mariah Staats of Muscatine; one sister, Grace “Peggy” Powell and her husband Richard of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law, Karen Moran of Muscatine; three God-children, Barry Sauer of Wilton, Vickie Hampton of Texas, Scott Sauer of Muscatine and several nieces, nephews, and lifetime friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Hetzler.
