Obituary for Cindy Sue Vander Linden (Murphy)
Cindy S. Vander Linden, 52, of Lone Tree, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Funeral services for Cindy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Carol Kaalberg, Parish Life Administrator will officiate. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mike Wieland, Brian Abbott, Larry Jenn, Jonathan Wieland, Brandon Wieland and Dick Wieland. Honorary Casket bearers will be Andrew Meyer and Mike Murphy. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lone Tree Fire and Rescue or the American Cancer Society in memory of Cindy. Cindy Sue Murphy was born on April 19, 1959, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Warren and Jean (Southworth) Murphy. Cindy was a graduate of Lone Tree High School and had attended cosmetology school. On Sept 25, 1981, Cindy was united in marriage to Gary Vander Linden in Iowa City, Iowa. Cindy worked at the Lone Tree Health Care Center as a beautician and had also worked in the lunch program at the Lone Tree Community School. Cindy enjoyed camping, gardening, going on walks and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
Cindy will be deeply missed by her husband, Gary of Lone Tree; daughter, Mandi Koedam and husband, Brent of Cherokee, Iowa; son, Jason Vander Linden of Lone Tree; step-daughter, Sonya Madden and husband, Jason of Iowa City; step-grandson, Wesley; mother, Jean Murphy of Lone Tree; two sisters, Terri Jenn and husband, Larry of Riverside, Chris Murphy of Marion, two brothers, Mike Murphy of Iowa City and Dan Murphy and wife, Laurie of Iowa City and several nieces and nephews.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Shelly Murphy.
