Obituary for Evelyn Umlandt
Evelyn L. Umlandt, 80, of Muscatine, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 24th, 2011, at Carrington Place in Muscatine. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Muscatine. Rev. Don Swanson will officiate the services. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the commital services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the First Baptist Church. Visitation for Evelyn will be Thursday, September 29, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Hospice or the American Diabetes Association. Evelyn Lucile Fowler was born on July 2, 1931, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Alva LeRoy and Elsie Marie (Achter) Fowler. On October 1, 1950, Evelyn married Peter W. Umlandt at the First Baptist Church in Muscatine. In the 1950’s Evelyn owned and operated the Sealtest Ice Cream shop in Muscatine. She then went on to work as a secretary at the First Baptist church for many years. Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Carrie Circle. She enjoyed cooking, singing in the choir at church, watching her baseball team, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Iowa Hawkeye Basketball, but most of all, Evelyn dearly loved spending time and playing games with her grandkids.
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her children, Michael Umlandt and wife, Carol of Portland, OR, Douglas Umlandt and wife, Colleen of Muscatine, William Umlandt and wife, Kathy of Muscatine, Laurie Robertson and husband, Don of Sugar Grove, IL and Gary Umlandt and wife, Dana of Muscatine; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Keith and Kenneth Fowler; and great-granddaughter, Kiera Umlandt.
